Traditional masi-maker, Makereta Matemosi, who designed the new Fiji Airways logo has passed away.
Matemosi died at her home in Veisari in Lami on Sunday.
Her fame as a creative artist has spread beyond Fiji as her ‘masi’ motif is emblazoned on the alirline’s state-of-the-art Airbus A330’s.
Matemosi was chosen by the airline to design its new branding in 2013 for its transition from the former Air Pacific.
Fiji Airways Board Director Stefan Pichler in a statement says they are deeply saddened by news of her passing.
He adds Matemosi’s collaboration has led to much acclaim and appreciation of the new logo.
As a tribute to the designer, the second A330 aircraft is named after her village; “Namuka-I-Lau”.
Funeral arrangements for Matemosi are being finalised.
