From June next year Fijians will be able to fly direct from Nadi to San Francisco in North America via Fiji Airways.
The new route was announced by the Fiji Airways Chief Executive André Viljoen in Suva this morning.
The flight will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.
Viljoen says the expansion of the Fiji Airways network provides the Fijian, Samoan and Tongan community living in San Francisco a chance to connect with family.
“As you know we fly daily to Los Angeles and one of the challenges we had was to increase frequency in LA or go to a new destination. We have chosen a new destination because it expands our footprint in a very important market where we earn US dollars.”
The flights will depart Nadi airport at 9pm and arrive into San Francisco 12:30pm and upon return 11pm at night and arrive into Nadi at 5am.
However, the flights are seasonal which means June, July, August, and December in 2016 and January in 2017 – repeating the schedule going forward.
Viljoen says the special price of $1999 return to San Francisco begins today for the inaugural flight.
