Over 50 truck drivers have been charged for overloading.

Land Transport Authority chief executive Naisa Tuinaceva says overloading is causing damage on our roads.

He says commercial goods vehicles are topping the penalty list of overloading and it seems to be a deliberate act.

“They know it from the gross vehicle weight, they know it from the net vehicle weight when they calculate this they know the kind of pay load they suppose to be carrying. The authority work here is to make sure this is controlled – because it’s quiet expensive repairing our roads."

Tuinaceva says a fine of $1,0000 is imposed on trucks found guilty of overloading.
