Fifteen-year-old swept away by strong current

A team of officers and divers have been deployed to search for a fifteen-year-old who swept away while trying to swim across the Waioli River in Naitasiri early this morning.

Police say the victim from Lutu village in Wainibuka allegedly touched a live electric wire and was swept away by the strong current.

An initial search was conducted with negative result.

Meanwhile three adults and two children are counting their lucky stars after the rental car they were traveling in washed away while they were trying to drive through the flooded Yaqara Bridge in Rakiraki.

The five managed were rescued and the car was found at a nearby field this morning.

With the heavy rain and flood warning still in place the police are warning the public to take heed of the safety advice.

Chief of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu, says resources and manpower were deployed immediately and precautionary measures were disseminated by the Media.
