The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has proposed two amendments to the Code of Conduct Bill.

While making the submissions before the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights – FICAC’s Manager Legal, Rashmi Aslam says they are proposing to include statutory authorities and commissions created by written law as well as ministries and departments in the Bill.

Aslam says this will help those investigating any Code of Conduct matters to have easy access to information.

“As such we suggest, the section 15(a) could be read as “Is entitled to full access to all convenient times to all minutes , records, contracts, documents , books , accounts and other materials of any government ministry or department , any Statutory Authority or Commission established under written law that relate to and relevant to the investigation.”

FICAC is also proposing that amendment needs to be made to section five of the Act so that the Commission is unable to reveal any details concerning an investigation.
