The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association says it needs to work with the right institutions to raise awareness about the jobs available in the market and the emerging trends.
This comes after the Association highlighted out of the 14,000 school leavers annually, many are absorbed into the tourism sector.
Chief Executive, Fantasha Lockington says it’s important that people understand what the country needs in terms of employment opportunities.
“We have to work a lot more with government stakeholders, training institutions, educational institutions and create the understanding that there is an industry out there that has a huge need for people to come and work and we want them to be from here.”
Lockington says tourism has experienced continued growth and deepening diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world.
Meanwhile, Fiji’s tourism industry is currently the largest foreign exchange earner.
