The Fiji Human Rights Commission is planning on reaching out to schools and communities in an effort to reduce child abuse cases.

Director Ashwin Raj says they are working on a plan on how to educate children on the subject.

“The embedding of the Human Rights in the school curriculum also means that the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission needs to be in these schools, it needs to have an audience with our children to be able to hear from them, what some of their human rights concerns are, what they expecting from the national Human Rights Commission and how can we work together that our children are not forgotten.”

Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions revealed there were five victims of rape last month who were under the age of 18-years.

The Commission is working on provisioning a trained psychologist and a Child Desk Officer to assist children who are mentally, socially or physically abused.
