The Fiji Higher Education Commission is willing to assist the National Fire Authority to develop a national qualification for Fire Engineering.

It has been revealed by the National Fire Authority that they don’t have the expertise to investigate fire incidents and ascertain the cause of fire.

FHEC Communication Officer Epi Rawalai says that they are currently working with experts whose qualifications range from mining to security to work on a collaboration with the NFA to be able to offer this training that would put the national fire service on par with those overseas.

“It will take some consultations and once that is completed and if they have any institution to offer that training or we can negotiate with one of our local institution to offer the training for them.”

Meanwhile, years ago, the Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Australia’s Country Fire Authority for investigations to be done by overseas officers at no cost.
