Fertilizing of cane crop

December 20, 2015 5:13 pm

The South Pacific Fertilizers Limited in Lautoka believes many cane farmers are falling behind on fertilizing their cane crop for the next crushing season.

Company general manager Ashween Nishchal Ram told FBC News that while some of the cane belt areas may have received rain, this could not allow cane farmers to fertilize their crop.

Ram says those cane fields that were not burnt during the last crushing season has been fertilized due to moisture in the ground.

According to Ram this moisture had remained.

Ram says all burnt cane fields are more affected during the current dry weather compared to fields where cane farmers harvested green cane.
