Ferry services between Suva-Nausori can address traffic issues

The Fiji Roads Authority says ferry services between Suva, Nausori and Lami areas can ease traffic congestion.

FRA chief executive Jonathan Moore says during peak hours especially in the morning this can be used.

“Its three kilometers from Lami to Sukuna Park. We can put a car park in Lami and bring the people across using the Ferry. You can do the same in Nausori. It’s a lot longer distance, probably 25 kilometers but it’s all inside the reef.”

The Chief executive says this move will not only benefit the public but the economy as well.

“The very alternative is to put more roads in Suva and other towns and cities as well. And the cost of the road from Rewa to Central Suva is astronomical. If we put a new road into Suva, it eases the congestion in Suva, but back in Nausori, it will be even worse, so it’s not a holistic approach.”

Moore adds they’re closely working with the ministry of infrastructure to ensure this initiative progresses.
