FEO Pre-poll team in hospital following an accident

The Fijian Elections Office pre-poll team that was scheduled for Udu Point, Vanua Levu were involved in a road accident on their way to the pre-polling venue today.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says they received the news earlier today that one of their two vehicles veered off the road.

” At the moment, we’ve received information that no one has been very seriously injured, however, this is all preliminary information coming from the field. We have dispatched our officer in-charge to go and investigate this matter. The ballot material is safe, it is carried in the second vehicle. And the first vehicle only has FEO Staff.”

Saneem says the ballot materials have been transported to a safe location and is under the watchful eyes of the police while their staff were referred to the nearest health centre to receive medical attention.

He adds that the Police, ambulance and fire officials were dispatched to the location following the accident.

The SOE has urged all FEO drivers to be vigilant and ensure the safety of the pre-poll officials and ballot materials as pre-polling begins tomorrow.
