FEO concludes pre-poll with a decrease in pre-poll voters

The Fijian Elections Office has concluded pre-polling in the western division, however, has highlighted the voter turnout numbers have decreased compared to the 2014 election.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says as of 2:30pm, a total of 9694 out of 14,777 registered pre-poll voters cast their vote in the central division.

The Eastern division recorded only 11,432 Fijians voting out of 19,384 that were registered.

9,763 cast their votes in the Northern division compared to the 14,709 registered while out of the 22,040 voters in the west, only 13,778 voted.

Saneem says the decrease were a result of a few factors.

“In this case some of the voters had move to Suva but didn’t change their venue. Some villagers were Jehovah’s witnesses and did not come to vote and 10 of the voters could not vote because they were deceased "

Saneem says the total turnout of pre-poll voters this year was 44,467.
