Fiji Electricity Authority will carry out half life refurbishment of the Monasavu Hydroelectric Scheme.
FEA has awarded the tender to Siemens NZ Ltd for the $F8.25m project.
Chief executive Hasmukh Patel says the company will design, manufacture, supply, install and commission the four generator transformers.
“We are looking at all the equipment that is out there – in fact we have determined what needs to be done in terms of refurbishment and so we have a complete program for the next three years and we are going step by step. Some of the legs are proceeding simultaneously but some will proceed one after the other.”
Life of any transformers is thirty years and FEA will be spending $F44m over the next three years on this project.
The two companies signed a contract this afternoon.
