A $43million renewable energy project has been commissioned by the Fiji Electricity Authority.
The Wainisavulevu Weir Rising Project will boost hydro energy supply by 10 gigawatt hours and save FEA $2.5million in diesel costs annually.
FEA has raised the existing Wainisavulevu dam by 8 metres, increasing its capacity to retain water which then feeds the Wailoa Power Station.

FEA General Manager Project Fatiaki Gibson says this is the Authority’s ongoing exercise to become less dependent on diesel generators.
The project was commissioned by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama this morning.
The project started in 2012 and was completed just over a week ago.
