October 24, 2012 6:14 pm

The Fiji Council of Social Services will discuss child-related issues at its National Conference on Social Development which starts today.

FCOSS Executive Director – Hassan Khan says the council is concerned about the increase in the number of infant deaths in the past few weeks.

Khan says it’s entirely on parents to ensure the wellbeing of their children.

He believes infants will lead a healthy life if they are breast fed.

“Once this is adopted at the family level then we can have healthy children and happy children. The wellness of the children depends on breast feeding. That is the best for the baby. It’s not about having it for 6 months, the longer the better at least about 2 years.”

The two day conference will be held in Suva.
