FCOSS starts campaign on improving health services for the elderly

April 22, 2015 1:22 am

The Fiji Council of Social Services is expected to meet with the Ministry of Health to discuss ways of improving health services for older people.

FCOSS is currently working with Help Age International on a campaign called Age Demands Action – which calls for easy access of age friendly health services to older people and to stop discrimination against them.

Help Age International Chief Executive Officer Toby Porter says it is unacceptable for older people to often miss out on their right to health because they are being discriminated and some of them are not aware of their entitlements.

One of the main concepts to be discussed with the Ministry of Health is to allocate a sufficient number of well trained and motivated health care workers to respond to specific needs of ageing populations.
