The chief executive of the Fiji Cooperative Dairy Limited has resigned effective immediately.

Sachida Nand is standing for parliament in the upcoming election.

In a statement the Cooperative says advice from the company lawyers indicated FCDCL “is a business that was established pursuant to a written law”.

As such the company officers and Board Members can be considered to hold public office under the 2013 constitution.

It says in order to maintain the Company and Nand within the law, the correct legal thing to do was for Nand to step down.

At a Board meeting earlier this week, the Cooperative appointed Kushmendra Prasad as acting chief executive.

The position will be advertised soon.
