The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission have received $18,000 in cash to assist with the Veilomani Food Bank.

Chief Executive Joel Abraham says this is a sign of how Fijians are looking out for one another during these difficult times.

He says they are committed to ensuring that all forms of assistance received in cash or kind are properly managed.

“None of these Eighteen thousand dollars has been used yet. We are still deploying the donation that we have received in kind.”

Digicel Fiji made a donation of $5,000 yesterday and Chief Executive Farid Mohammed says as a business they understand the impact of COVID-19 to Fijian families and hence why they are assisting.

“We are definitely very happy to be doing our part, how small or how big it doesn’t matter at this stage, no one is being spared by COVID-19. As an industry as a business, we are facing challenges ourselves.”

The FCCC also says bins placed at various supermarkets have also seen a huge response with large numbers of people anonymously placing food items for the Veilomani Food Bank.
