In an effort to promote women empowerment the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is going to implement the UN Global Compact seven Women’s Empowerment Principles.
Chief Executive, Joel Abraham says they believe in maintaining equal opportunities.
In showing its commitment to the pledge, FCCC will establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality, treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and non-discrimination.
The Commission will also ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers, promote education, training and professional development for women.
They will also implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women, promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy and measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.
Abraham says there is a need to consider women’s empowerment due to years of neglect of women’s right especially the right for economic participation.
He adds that we need to work together to respect and promote equal opportunities for women in the workplace and in the economy.
