The Fiji Bus Operators Association is working on their formal submission that will be presented to the steering committee headed by the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission next week.
President, Richard Lal, says they have a formula in place on how bus fares are currently worked out and are interested to see what the current research by other stakeholders will reveal.
“We need to prove what the data says, once the data is available, we have a cost model, index model formula that’s being used.”
The last review of bus fares was done in 2011 and this was in response to rising oil prices which led to increased bus fares then.
The FCCC is expected to meet next week to begin consultations on the bus fare review and are calling on the public to also make submissions.
