FBDA to highlight sector opportunities

Fiji Building Designers Association will start conducting workshops and seminars in schools to educate students on the opportunities which are available in the building and design industry.

Association President Shailendra Mudliar says given an era of rapid advances in communications and graphic techniques, students need exposure to the highly competitive world of design well before their student days are over.

“In few months’ time we will be running workshops and seminars to upskill our designers that’s what we have planned. We have other plans which includes dealing with local authorities and town country planning to make it easier for us when we are lodging a plan and getting approval.”

Mudliar says students come out of the institute and schools and are unaware of the industry in which they want a career in and a lot of time is spent on training them.

He says there are a lot of opportunities in the industry which most Fijians are either unaware of or more interested in finding white collar jobs.
