The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation is operating in one of the most competitive business environments in the country and this is not only limited to television and radio.

While making submissions to the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, FBC Chief Executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says that a lot of people don’t realize the value of airtime.

“For a small country with less than a million people, we have three commercial TV stations, numerous radio stations, two national newspapers, numerous magazines – we’re competing with people who produce billboards, now digital advertising as well and every advertiser, whether it’s on a rubbish bin, on a bill board, on a web – Facebook, even new media is a competitor. We’re competing with everyone now."

Sayed-Khaiyum also revealed that according to a recent survey, more than seventy percent of Fijians prefer FBC’s daily 7pm news as a preferred source of news on TV.

He adds that for FBC to be able to do this in a short space of six years is a phenomenal work and it’s important to recognize the hard work being put in by its employees who have made this possible.
