A 41-year-old man who raped a 13-year-old girl in Samabula two years ago has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by the Suva High court.

The court heard the man was the immediate neighbor of the victim.

On the day of the incident he lured the girl to take another route to her house and on the way he raped her.

The Court says the victim was emotionally and psychologically affected after the incident and that she has left school.

The man married with four children had spent 3 months in remand and after considering this Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza said the man will have to serve a mandatory 13 year sentence with a non-parole period of 10 years and 9 months.
