Father and son plead not guilty

The hearing date for two men charged with corruption-related offences will be decided after a not guilty plea was entered in the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday.

Ministry of Health former Executive, Ronald Ritesh Narayan pleaded not guilty to all four counts of abuse of office and one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

His father and Director of Brink Home Builders, Sat Narayan also pleaded not guilty to one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

The duo were charged by FICAC last month for allegedly causing tenders of MOH to be awarded to Brink Home Builders for four different projects.

These projects include the Nukuilau Nursing Station, Bukuya Health Centre, Ba Mission Hospital and the Raiwaqa Health Centre.

The alleged offences were committed from September 2016 to October last year where over $101, 000 was obtained by the two accused.

FICAC Senior State Counsel informed the Court that prosecution wished to have the matter heard in the Magistrates court and withdrew her application to have the matter transferred to the High Court.

The counsel also requested a Pre-Trial Conference date before the hearing date was fixed.

Resident Magistrate Rangajeeva Wimalasena adjourned the matter to to the 22nd of January, 2019.
