Farmers urged to practice organic farming

Practicing organic farming for improved quality and healthy products has been recommended as the most viable option for farmers.

Minister for Agriculture, Dr Mahendra Reddy says the government is promoting minimal use of chemicals and is urging farmers to practice organic farming.

Dr Reddy says the ministry will continue to advocate for new strategies that minimize the use of chemicals on farms as current practices have taken a toll on the land and environment.

He says reducing the use of fertilizers and shifting towards organic farming is a more suitable choice.

He adds organic farming will protect the global brand image which is an environmentally friendly product that will generate revenue and allow entry into high-end value markets.
