The Agriculture ministry continues to emphasize the promotion of farming as a business to Fijians in the Northern Division.

While responding to issues raised by farmers in the North, Minister responsible – Dr Mahendra Reddy says they want to expand the agriculture sector.

Dr Reddy encouraged young aspiring farmers to take full advantage of the available assistance and programs provided by the Government and to consider agriculture as a career and a business.

“Treat it as an occupation, as a business, now that is the kind of Agriculture and that it’s the kind of farmers we can depend on at the national level.”

Dr Reddy says they got a massive budget to support Agriculture and they will also ensure that this investment is not wasted but is effectively utilized.

He adds the involvement of youths in the sector at an early stage is also critical as they would benefit from the Government’s investment in the initial stages of their farming venture.
