Farmers prepare for cane harvesting

Cane farmers will soon start filling the Memorandum of Gang Agreement forms as preparations for crushing gets underway.

Sugar Cane Growers Council chief executive Sundresh Chetty says the Sugar Industry Tribunal has begun printing the forms and it will be distributed from next week.

Farmers will need to complete the MOGA forms and return it to the Fiji Sugar Corporation.

This will give the FSC a clear indication on what percentage of gangs are ready to harvest cane.

According to the Master Award the FSC will only begin crushing if more than sixty-five percent of gangs from each mill area are ready for harvesting.

The Labasa Sugar Mill will be the first to begin crushing from the 6th of next month.

Lautoka Mill will begin crushing from the 12th while the Rarawai Mill in Ba will begin cane crushing from the 25th of next month.
