Farmers informed about lease renewal options

Farmers in Seaqaqa, Vanua Levu were informed about the lease renewal options they have by the iTaukei Lands Trust Board staff earlier this week.

During a joint consultation with the Sugar Cane Growers Fund the TLTB staff informed farmers that they can either renew their leases for 30 or 50 years upon expiry in the next 5 to 7 years or now even have an option to surrender their lease.

SCGF chief executive, Raj Sharma says the Fund will those farmers who have good production and meet loan guidelines for lease renewals.

Sharma advised those farmers who have loans with the Fund or other financiers can surrender the lease and opt for new leases.

He says an extension of lease means flexible loan terms for the farmers.
