The farmers have acknowledged the government for their support after receiving the fourth cane payment.

Fiji Cane Lorry Association national president, Jiten Singh says this top-up has come at an opportune time for the farmers.

“I am very glad that government has come in to help the farmers through this cane payment top-up the farmers were very depressed that the payment was very less and now when the money is there the farmers should utilize it wisely.”

Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Yogesh Karan says fertilizer subsidy has also been put in place whereby farmers will only pay $20 per bag instead of $49.

Karan says the government has also provided $6.7m for weedicide.
