Farmer warned for assaulting wife

A farmer of Sigatoka who punched his wife for dancing at a wedding ceremony in the village, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

The accused pleaded guilty to one count of assault.

The court heard on the 18th of last month, there was a ceremony in the village, where relatives and friends attended the event and they were dancing.

On the night after the ceremony, when the accused and his wife went home, the man asked his wife why she was dancing away with another man.

Prosecution says there was a dispute that erupted between the couple, after which the woman was later assaulted by her husband.

The victim reported the matter to Police, where the accused was arrested and charged.
