Farmer in court for rape of 18 year-old

A 41 year old farmer of Tailevu appeared in court today for allegedly raping an 18 year old woman on Wednesday afternoon.

He is charged with one count of rape and appeared at the Nausori Magistrates Court.

The accused who lives in the same settlement as the victim is alleged to have committed the offence when she was returning from bathing.

The case has been transferred to the Suva High Court and will be called again on the 4th of December.

Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho earlier stated that sexual attacks against women and children will be pursued vigorously to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.

Qiliho is concerned that more women and children are becoming victims of this heinous crime and is again calling on society to assist Police fight this social scourge emerging in society.
