Farmer dies after diving trip

A 51 year old farmer of Waisa village in Kubulau, Bua has died following a diving trip.

Police say the man was diving at Waisa Reef with his son on Wednesday afternoon when he suddenly felt ill and weak.

He was rushed to the Namalata Health Centre and later transferred to the Nabouwalu Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

Meanwhile in another incident the search for a 68 year old man of Naibalebale village, Yasawa who had gone diving on Wednesday morning has so far proved futile.

He had gone diving at about 9am. When he failed to return home later in theday a search was conducted and only his clothes were found.

The Fiji Police is requesting the public to be cautious when taking part in any form of water activities.

In particular divers are advised to use the necessary safety apparatus when diving at all times considering the dangers free diving can cause.

Police are also advising divers not to go out to sea alone and always be accompanied by another person or in groups so that assistance is available.
