A 56-year-old farmer of Tailevu has been sentenced to 13-years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl.
The father of four was convicted on one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault by the Suva High Court.
The accused committed the offence between January and July last year.
The Court heard that the accused who was a friend of the victim’s father picked her from her home under the pretence of asking her to help him with his chores.
Instead he raped the girl and gave her money for the chores she did not do.
The Court heard that these incidents were detected on enquiry by the victim’s teacher who saw that she had an unusual amount of money with her.
The student relayed the incidents to two female teachers and the matter was reported to her father and police.
