FAO to boost services in Fiji

June 8, 2015 10:22 pm

The recent Host Country Agreement signed between Fiji and the Food and Agriculture Organization will upgrade the FAO’s representation in Fiji.

FAO’s Director General Jose Graziano da Silva says it will also serve to strengthen joint efforts to enhance food security and tackle climate change.

Da Silva believes FAO needs to be close to its members in the field, to improve the support it can give.

A full time Assistant FAO representative will be based in the organizations office in Fiji.

Da Silva says the representative will help organize FAO’s support in Fiji, mainly in its efforts to promote food and nutrition security and respond to climate change.

Fiji has been a member of FAO since 1971.

The office will also support FAO’s efforts to work closer with partners in the region, including the South Pacific Community.
