The Family Law Judgment for the first time has been made accessible to Fijians after its launch in Suva this morning.

Officiating the launch, Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar says today marks a milestone as it will now be made available to the public, academics and students through the Judiciary and the PACLII website.

Justice Kumar says this will ease their work in delivering sound judgments and helps the judiciary set precedents for similar cases that have often been questioned in the past.

“As I’ve said the legal practitioners will help them to give an opinion to clients based on the judgment that is published. At the moment they cannot access any High Court Judgment that was given and now with the publication, it’ll help them to access these judgments and then know what the factors and what the court looks at when it comes to certain matters and situations.”

He says having the Family Law judgments published will aid with consistency in delivering judgments for certain cases and situations.

Justice Kumar says judges have been trained to anonymise judgments and to write with anonymisation in mind.
