Two families are mourning the loss of their children who drowned in Bilalevu River in Sigatoka on Saturday afternoon.

12-year-old Rahul Chand and 9-year old Vinal Varun Sharma went swimming together without any supervision at around 1pm when they disappeared.

Rahul’s grandfather, Anil Kumar says just after one, the family found the two missing and made several calls to the phone carried by one of the boys.

Kumar says a search party went to look for them and only found the mobile phone and the clothes on the river bank.

He says the two families are in shock as they have lost their eldest and youngest sons.

The two were students of Loma Primary school.

A police investigation continues and a post mortem is expected to be conducted soon.
