False declarations for housing applications

July 6, 2018 12:30 am

The Housing Authority has received a number of false declarations from applicants wishing to occupy lots at the Matavolivoli Housing in Nadi.

Minister for Housing Parveen Kumar says this has prompted the Housing Authority to relook at all applications received and make sure that those selected are legitimate and eligible.

Kumar says this type of fraudulent behavior is not new.

“We are very strict on the issuance of offer letter, initially we have found out in Suva there were people who made some false declarations so we don’t want that We want to put a stop to that and we want people to come up with the right information so that it is easy for them to process and give them the offer letter and the lease.”

Kumar adds the applications received for the Matavolivoli project surpassed the number of lots available.
