With majority of Fijians using bus services, any increase to bus fares will have a significant impact.
Chair of the independent bus fare review committee and CEO for the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, Joel Abraham says they need to ensure any increases are justified.
He says, it’s a critical sector and one in which they need to comprehensively evaluate.
“Fairness is the keyword here, we must maintain fairness, the Fijians have put their faith and trust in FCCC and we will uphold that.”
Meanwhile, Fiji Bus Operators Association President, Richard Lal says it’s been over a decade since bus fares were increased.
He says they want an increase across of the board of 15.54 percent.
If approved, all stage one fares could increase to one dollar.
