October 7, 2015 12:00 am

Lautoka market vendors, who currently sell their products under tarpaulins outside the municipal market building, will benefit from an extended facility next month.

Government has provided $0.5 million to the Lautoka City Council through the Challenge Fund to extend the existing market and construct a proper shed to cater for about 200 vendors.

Lautoka City Council Chief Executive Officer, Jone Nakauvadra says the market extension works began last year and should be completed early next month.

Nakauvadra says the new facility will provide an enabling environment for market vendors, in line with Government’s efforts to improve access to services for all Fijians.

The market extension will benefit vendors and farmers from as far as Wainibuka, Ra, Nadarivatu, Navosa and the Yasawa Islands.
