The expansion of the Nausori Airport runway will begin in the next few months.
Fiji Airports Executive Chair Faiz Khan says the runway should take two and half years to complete before looking at revamping the terminal.
“On Friday, the board sat and has given a conditional approval for a contractor and we are looking at fulfilling overcoming those conditions in the next couple of weeks and executing a contract and thereafter works is likely to commence in the next couple of months.”
Meanwhile, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the environmental impact assessment has already been carried out for the lengthening of the runway.
Sayed-Khaiyum says once the runway is completed, the Nausori airport would have direct flights from metropolitan cities.
He says that this would also mean enormous opportunities for Fijians traveling in and out of the country.
