National Disaster Management Centre or DISMAC has allocated Namalata District School and the Lodoni village as evacuations centres in Korovou.
National Disaster Management director, Manasa Tagicakibau says this is to cater for people stranded in Korovou.
“Our main concern now is the Korovou flats. It is flooded at the moment and commuter along the Kings Highway are stranded on both sides.”
Tagicakibau says water levels are rising in all creeks and rivers and the office is liaising with District Offices to establish more evacuation centers.
Residents on River Road, Nerere Suva were surprised to wake up to at least two feet of water in their homes.
One resident told FBC News that they had to move to higher grounds by wading through about five feet of water.
DISMAC office is urging people to exercise safety and not to allow children to go in fast moving waterways.
