EU to provide farming materials

The European Union Ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific Andrew Jacobs says the will be looking at providing farmers with planting materials.

Jacobs toured the sugarcane belt areas in the Lautoka to Rakiraki corridor last week to witness the damages done to farms by the Cyclone says they will be providing seedlings for other crops as well.

“Excess to additional crops to sugarcane and I think that certainly may come in very handy now. It is clear that sugarcane needs to be re-planted, it needs to be rehabilitated but let’s bring in additional crops as well so that farmers can have additional course of income which is very important."

Jacobs says the EU stands ready to support the industry and is committed to assisting the sector get back to its feet.
