English refresher courses planned for teachers

January 9, 2018 12:10 am

The Ministry of Education is liaising with Tertiary Institutions if there could be English refresher courses planned for existing teachers whose contracts are about to end.

These teachers are required to sit an English and job tests that will determine the renewal of their contracts.

Permanent Secretary for Education Iowane Tiko confirmed if these teachers fail, then a refresher course will be provided for them before re-sitting the test.

Tiko says it’s a process that the ministry is looking at carrying out throughout the year.

“Now FNU and USP are working closer with us in trying to arrange all this so that the test will be finally administered by an outside body rather than the Ministry of Education Human Resources Unit.”

Meanwhile some of the new graduate teachers received their test results while others are still waiting for it.

Those that have passed will get their postings while those who failed will have to re-sit it.
