Engineered Design provides clarification

September 6, 2018 6:44 pm

Engineered Design- the company that gave the approval for the construction of the Plaza on McGregor Road in Suva, has provided clarification on claims being made against the construction of the building.

Engineered Design’s Principal Engineer Vijay Krishnan is adamant that all material used for the project is fit for the intended purpose and people who are raising concerns about the project should do their research before making allegations.

Justifying his approval for Fiji’s tallest building, Krishnan says it’s unfortunate that complainants did not talk to him.

Allegations were made by engineer Shivas Singh and Bhavesh Kumar of RC Manubhai who wrote to the government raising concerns about the standard of material being used in the project.

One of the complainants of the building Bhavesh Kumar maintains that sub-standard steel is visible from outside the building.

“The steel was not painted primed or plastered and was rusting so how they going to achieve fire rating on the steel and not an idea. Its just observation made from road side can see it from outside.”

However Vijay Krishnan says this is not true and at times the steel used in some of the work is directly imported by owners under some concessions that have been allowed by the government to promote investment into the country.

Krishnan says perhaps that can be a reason why people think they are missing out in the business.

Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar says the panel that looked into the complaint consisting of Shrinivas Singh, Sanjay Kaba and Warren Yee is now recommending that an overseas independent consultant look into the matter.

Meanwhile work continues at the project site.
