Employment Symposium to assist inmates

The Fiji Corrections Service has invited ninety businesses to be part of the Yellow Ribbon Employment Symposium tomorrow in an effort to assist offenders in terms of employment when they are released back into the community.

Director Rehabilitation Unit Senior Superintendent Salote Panapasa has confirmed they have identified thirty inmates who will be released within twelve months.

Panapasa says these inmates are undergoing rehabilitation programs and also intervention programs that address their offending behavior together with upskilling programs that will help them in terms of earning an income.

“We have the joinery, piggery band also bakery programs not forgetting garment factory for both females and female offenders and of course training on vegetables and root crops farming activity.”

Thirteen females are included in the employment program.
