Employment Ministry to conduct spot checks

The Employment Ministry is currently conducting spot checks on employers around the country to ensure that they are adhering to the employment laws that are in place.

Employment Minister Jone Usamate says one of the main areas they are looking at is that employees should be paid according to the minimum wage rate.

With numerous calls from workers to increase the National Minimum Wage Rate, the ministry is currently holding talks with relevant stakeholders and workers about the issue.

“That’s why we have targeted inspections. Our inspectors will go out and in the sectors that am talking about building and civil, wholesale and retailers, security. We will target these sectors that have most complaints .Our inspectors will go and target, check their books and make sure that people do the right thing.”

Meanwhile Usamate will be attending the ILO convention in Geneva next week.
