The Employment Minister is reiterating that anyone working on any of the gazetted public holidays is entitled to public holiday pay.

Parveen Kumar says the Employment Relations Act clearly states that a worker must be paid in respect of each public holiday for the number of hours which they have worked on that day.

He says anyone that works this Easter weekend including Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday is entitled to double pay for all three days.

However, he says if a worker does not come to work on these days, then they will be paid public holiday pay, but on a single rate.

He says a worker must be at work a day before and after the public holiday.

However, if they’re unable to do so, then they must provide a valid reason or a medical certificate.
