Embassy of France to close consular section from December

Fijians wishing to travel to Europe from December will have to apply for their Schengen visa in either the Embassy of France in Port Vila or Manilla.

In a statement released on the Embassy website today, the Embassy of France in Suva will close down its consular section on November 30th.

Visa applications the notice advises will be transferred to France’s respective embassies in Vanuatu and the Philippines.

All persons having to travel to France of any Schengen country or to any French Overseas Territories from Fiji would now have to travel abroad for their visa requirements.

Earlier this year, the government of France announced that it would be downsizing their operations at the French Embassy in Suva which led to a number of local staff being made redundant.
