Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide technical assistance and equipment to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to eliminate Filariasis in Fiji.

An agreement was signed between both parties yesterday to launch a Project for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in the Pacific Region.

The Government of Japan has been contributing to eliminating the infectious disease, in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) and the health ministries of Pacific Island countries, including Fiji while JICA has been supporting 14 Pacific Island countries through provision of medicines and Filariasis test kits.

The Project will be implemented from next year till 2023, in Fiji, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tuvalu.

JICA will work with the Health Ministry to implement this project in the country.”
