Eleven year old student drowns while fishing

An eleven-year-old student of a Primary school in Tailevu is the latest drowning victim.

The class 6 student was catching fish yesterday afternoon at the Wainibuka River with her uncle and two other cousins of the same age when the incident happened.

It is alleged they were attending to their fishing net when the victim drowned.

Her uncle managed to get her out of the water, tried to revive her but failed.

Police are urging parents to be more cautious on the whereabouts of their children at all times.

The drowning toll now stands at 26 compared to 23 for the same period last year.
